Maureen Castillo Pagaduan (November 22,1952-August 11,2020)
CSWCD announces the passing of Maureen Pagaduan, retired professor of the Department of Community Development (DCD). Professor Pagaduan, is a UP Alumna (BS Hotel and Restaurant Administration, UP, 1974; Master of Community Development, UP 1981). She completed her Master of Development Studies at the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands. She joined the CSWCD Faculty in 1980 and retired in November 2017.
In her 40 years of service she served as Chairperson of DCD and coordinator of the then Office of the Continuing Education which later became the Research and Extension for Development Office of which she also served as a director.
In the nineties, Prof Pagaduan was also among trailblazer pioneers of the Women and Development Program which is now the Department of Women and Development Studies, the first graduate program in Women, Gender and Development Studies in Southeast Asia. Her students remember her as an intense mentor in the courses she handled: Community organizing; Strategies for community mobilization: Organizing and social movements; Peoples’ initiatives and economic enterprise.
