The College of Social Work and Community Development’s (CSWCD) radio program Sikhay Kilos bagged another recognition at the annual Gawad Agong sa Pamamahayag. Its episode on Radyo Sagada and Lumad: Reflections of Indigenous Community Media aired last February 23, 2018 over DZUP 1602 AM was hailed as the best program in the radio broadcast category.

The “Gawad Agong para sa Pamamahayag” is a salute to the media workers in print and online, television and radio broadcast, who devoted their time, talent, and efforts in covering and reporting indigenous issues with due diligence. It started in 2013 under the ‘Indigenous Voices in Asia’ project in the Philippines with support from the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) and the Swedish Initiative for Development Aid (SIDA). The event has led to the formation of IP Communicators Forum (IPCF), a loose network of indigenous and non-indigenous journalists in the country. The IPCF has since become a partner in advocating due diligence in reporting indigenous issues.

This is the second time that Sikhay Kilos earned the recognition from Gawad Agong. In 2016, it was awarded a special citation for radio broadcasting. The radio program is also a recipient of the Gandingan Awards 2018 for Most Development-Oriented AM Radio Program (Core) and Most Development-Oriented Public Service radio program.

It airs every Friday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 in the afternoon via DZUP 1602 AM and streamed live on Sikhay Kilos is produced and hosted by CSWCD Professors Roselle Leah Rivera, Hazel Cometa-Lamberte, Devralin Lagos, and REDO’s Edgie Francis Uyanguren.
