SIKLAB: Mula Sa Dagitab ng Teorya at Praktika tungo sa Nag-aalab na Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan (2018 CSWCD Recognition Day)

The 2018 CSWCD Recognition Day was held last 24 June 2018, Sunday, at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo, UP College of Music. A total of fifty-nine (59) students obtained their undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate degrees from various programs in the college. Leading the graduates was Rowena Laguilles-Timog, who graduated with a Doctor of Social Development degree. She was also a recipient of the Academic Excellence Award which is given to graduate students who obtained a grade point average (GPA) of 1.25 or higher. With Laguilles-Timog were 3 magna cum laudes, 10 cum laudes, and 2 more Academic Excellence awardees. There were 37 students who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree while 21 students obtained a Master’s Degree in Community Development (MCD – 14) and Women and Development Studies (MAWD – 7). Laguilles-Timog was also the only doctorate student who marched this year but she was the 12th student to finish the program since it started in 2009.


UP History Professor and former Chairperson of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, Prof. Maria Serena I. Diokno, Ph.D. was the guest speaker during the recognition day. In her speech,she challenged the graduates to serve the people and seek the truth, something that is being impugned and thwarted in the Philippines’ current political climate.


Elisha Roi M. Nepomuceno, BSSW, cum laude and Flora Monica S. Mabaylan, MCD, Academic Excellence awardee both delivered messages of gratitude to the people who helped them in their journey as students of the CSWCD.

Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino (Kontra-GaPi) and Tubaw Music Collective performed their original music at the beginning of the program and right after the speeches of the students. CSWCD Alumni Association President Willie Villarama presided the oath-taking ceremony of the graduates as newly-minted alumni of the college. Assistant Professor Wilfredo B. Awitan and Instructor Glennie Marie B. Sina-on served as hosts for the program.
