The College of Social Work and Community Development held its 46th Alumni Homecoming last August 31, 2013 at the college’s library from 1:00-6:00 PM. Batches ‘53, ‘63, ‘73, ‘88, and ‘98 were honored with a short but touching program. Among the jubilarians was Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary, Corazon “Dinky” Soliman who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1973.
Sec. Dinky also gave an inspirational speech where she highlighted how her years at UP continuously shaped her as a social worker and as a person.
The homecoming was also a time for the CSWCD alumni, guests, and staff to showcase their talents. Representatives from batch ’63 impressed the crowd with their tango while CSWCD’s administrative staff got groovy with their ‘70s inspired dance routine. Meanwhile, 15 year old music prodigy, Trixie Dayrit received a standing ovation with her wonderful rendition of kundiman songs.
The event also honored retires from CSWCD namely Professor Elmer T. Ferrer, Dr. Leticia Salvador-Tojos, and Ms. Criselda Velasco.
Each were given a picture collage which captured glimpses of their stint in the college through the years. Lastly, the newly-refurbished garden at the CSWCD ground floor had its opening to the public. Batches ’75-’76 donated the garden to serve not only as a beautiful addition to the college, but as a sanctuary for everyone.
The 46th Alumni Homecoming was made possible by the tireless efforts of the newly-elected officers of the CSWCD Alumni Association headed by Ms. Florence F. Pasos, the newly-elected president.
