The 3rd Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Community Development was held last October 22-24, 2012 at the BTS, CSWCD Bldg, University of the

Philippines, Diliman. The 3-day conference was attended by social development workers from different regions of the country. Students of Community Development from various schools also participated in the event.

This year’s theme is “Peoples’ Collective Actions Towards Rights, Freedom and Security”.  According to Prof. Aleli Bawagan, Outgoing Chairperson of CD Society of the Philippines, they invited individuals who have worked a long time with different sectors to share stories of collective efforts of organized peoples and how they have been able to achieve their rights and improved their lives. This is a different approach from the two previous conferences wherein participants presented papers on how communities worked together to provide solutions to their situation. Department of Community Development (DCD-CSWCD) Chairperson Prof. Maureen Pagaduan said that the conference puts at center stage the color, vibrancy and efficacy of people’s struggle as fertile ground for lessons from marginalized people’s organizing and social movement building.

An election of CDSP’s new set of officers was also held during the conference. CSWCD’s Prof. Bawagan was elected as Vice-Chairperson for External Affairs while Prof. Pagaduan was elected as member of the Board of Directors.

The Conference was organized by CDSP, DCD-CSWCD with support from Center for Asian Mission for the Poor (CAMP) and Hanshin University.
